Meeting TQS #5 consistently and appropriately in my classroom is incredibly important to me. During my PSIII internship I researched and created a professional inquiry project about how Blackfoot Values can be incorporated into an Early Elementary Classroom in order to consistently teach Indigenous content while also teaching valuable social and emotional skills. This project was incredibly successful and I was honoured to be one of three recipients of the Wigham Family Award, an award for research in pre-service education. I was also asked to speak and present at the 2021 Southern Alberta Teacher's Convention to share my project with other educators! Ensuring my classroom is an inclusive and welcoming environment is incredibly important to me. Throughout my time at the University of Lethbridge I have had the opportunity to take different classes that have helped me learn about the best ways to create an inclusive classroom. While taking Ed-4260-English Language Arts in the Elementary School I was able to work with a group of three other pre-service teachers to research and develop a project that would inform other teachers about a topic of our choice. My group chose to explore the use of identity text in the classroom and how encouraging the creation of identity texts can create an inclusive and welcoming classroom community. I have attached the link to the website my peers and I made for this project!

While reading Dr. Jody Carrington's book, Kids These Days, this is one quote that stood out to me the most.
All students have different life situations and it is important to always recognize that all behaviour is a form of communication. Throughout my time working with children with cognitive and physical disabilities I have been able to recognize how important it is for teachers to foster positive and supportive relationships with all students in their classrooms. For many students, school may be their only safe place for them to communicate their needs, in whichever way that is.
