Throughout my PSI I demonstrated my professional body of knowledge through my in depth and well-prepared lesson plans. Throughout my PSII I have completed an LA unit plan to demonstrate my long-range planning for practicum, as well as weekly overview plans and daily detailed lesson plans. It is crucial for me to feel comfortable and confident with the content I am teaching prior to entering my classroom so I know that my lessons are designed to meet general and specific learning outcomes, as well as be interactive and modified so each and every student has the opportunity to succeed. When teaching I always ensure I am either telling my students the specific learner outcome we are working on, or I give them the reason we are learning what we are. I always make sure I tell my students that what we are learning is just the beginning of their learning in this field, so it is crucial they pay attention so when they enter higher grade levels they have good foundational knowledge. Student differentiation is something that I learned a lot about throughout my PSII and was another way of showing my professional body of knowledge. Being in a split grade classroom showed me my students' diverse range of ability in both Language Arts and Math. When creating my lesson plans I was always aware of student ability and always ensured I had enough options for students who finished early. When doing centres in math I purposely made the groups in ways that would benefit both lower and stronger students. Stronger students were given the opportunity to be leaders and help their friends, or stronger students were given more challenging work to ensure they were never bored. Below is an example of two worksheets I made for one of my measurement lessons. I chose to make an extra challenging worksheet for students who I knew would finish early. Having an extra worksheet prepped and ready to go allowed me to create an environment that students who were slower did not feel rushed, and students who finished quickly did not get bored. Students who completed both worksheets would then be encouraged to help other students in order to practice being a leader and create relationships with their classmates.
