Below are two English Language Arts unit plans. One is a sample unit plan I made prior to receiving my practicum and is the first unit I have created. The second is the unit I created and used in my PSII Grade 2/3 classroom. I was very lucky that my first unit plan I created for my Curriculum and Instruction class was for the same grade level I was placed in. I was able to use some of the same resources and I felt knowledgeable about resources at the Grade 2/3 level while creating my second unit plan. Having my full 6-week unit planned prior to beginning practicum eased my stress as I felt that I was prepared for each week, even if my plans changed or I had to take out some assignments. Creating units based around one main universal question, such as 'what is creativity' or 'how do we form and shape our identity' is a great way to narrow down resources, as well as keep students engaged as every resource and assignment relates back to the same general theme.
